“Making of”: Automating website, email, and social media posting

Saturday is the day when I throttle back my formal prayer practices (reading some scripture, praying for people in need, sitting in silence) and throttle up the creativity. So it seemed like a good day to launch the first in my series of “Making of” videos.

Wanna see how I create the site, either because you’re just curious or because you make media too and want some tips? This series is for you.

The first video is a free sample. Subsequent episodes will be “unlisted” on YouTube but shared on a members-only media page. Giving on Patreon at $2/month or more will get you access. I think I’ll also sell them for a buck apiece if you’d rather go that route.

I’ve got a good one for you to start, probably the trickiest puzzle I had to solve to make Creative Commons Prayer a sustainable (ish) project. How do you schedule both the blog posts and the accompanying social media content in advance? And have it all look appropriate to each social media platform? And not screw up the timing of email subscriptions?

In other words, what’s a good way to handle automating a website workflow?

The answer I came up with will cost you $141/year, just 29% of what the gorgeous but pricey Co-Schedule will set you back. (If you can afford Co-Schedule—do it!)

Hope this video has some of you hungry for more. Thanks for your support of the site (in whatever form), and watch for more “Making of” videos soon.

P.S. If we reach the $300/month level, I’ll commit to producing one each month.

P.P.S. We’re coming up on the end of “Launch Week” (which got a little extended from me being at a conference). Expect something closer to “business as usual” starting next week.

O God, whom saints and angels delight to worship in heaven: Be ever present with your servants who seek through art and music [and other creative pursuits] gifts to perfect[ish] the praises offered by your people on earth; and grant to them even now glimpses of your beauty, and make them worthy at length to behold it unveiled for evermore; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Definitely going to do a “Making of” video for this design in the future. Lots of cool resources to tell you about that went into it. And it seems to be resonating—my first ever sale on Zazzle!
