Third Monday: A poem for MLK Day 2018
The hard part collectively
is our different work
Some to seek good shelter
Some to be safe harbor
Some to begin a journey
Some to trek on
A few to shake the rafters
Many to shake up their routines
All to speak their truth if they wish
—some only after listening to hear
Some to increase
Some to decrease
Some to increase
Some to decrease
All to love
But none to decide what love means
For those previously barred from deciding
A choice
All to love
I also made a playlist on the train back from e-Formation, Music that seemed to capture our moment and seemed generally appropriate for today. Here it is on Spotify and YouTube.
Related Prayer
O God, you have bound us together in a common life. Help us, in the midst of our struggles for justice and truth, to confront one another without hatred or bitterness, and to work together with mutual forbearance and respect; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (BCP, Public Domain)
